Say What! :

Thanks, but no thanks

Today, adults rule the world, and you've got to admit, it's not really the best place in the universe. Teenagers, have been completely liberated, with 'detention' and 'being grounded' rarely happening in our country. No rules. We're as free as wild bulls in a room full of chicken. The chickens, representing, the adults of our nation (no pun intended, I assure you).

Yes, it's true, parents are being pushed around a lot by our rebellious teenage girls and boys, today. This may be due to the fact that parents can be persuaded easily at times by either their only child or their favourite one (but then again, only Scarlett O'Hara managed to actually pull that stunt) also because divorce is not a big deal now, parents pay more attention to their paperwork than to their kids, and in most cases due to the fact that teenagers don't like being bossed around much and of course, though they actually mean to just put some rules into kids lives - seems to be most parents' specialty.

I'm not just talking about Sri Lanka, I am talking about the injustice thrust on us teenagers all around the world. And no, I am not the teenage version of a liberalist simply. Adults in general don't seem to actually make an effort to leave us alone.

Instead, all we find when we look out of the window, are guys in army suits chasing innocent people with mallets just to get their oil factory (This is an animated version, of course, since the Army suit guys actually carry machine guns instead). And what else do we find? mass destruction, death, suffering, mostly lying politicians, oh did I mention death?, dangerous drugs, nuclear bombs, I could go on and on, but that would be silly.

I don't mean to sound like a hippy, and go, "Hey, peace man", with the two-finger gesture and all that, but what everyone realises and no one cares a jot enough to do something about is - at this rate, by the time us, teenagers, take over the world, brutally frankly put: We are doomed.

And Adults, Newsflash: It's not going to be too long until we will become adults as well, and will be forced to continue this stereotypical saddening trend with no other choice. Adults, it's your time. It is your era. It is your time to rule.

Your kids are going to grow up some day and go for it all, "So this is what it's like to be a grown-up and in charge," and for sure, this phrase will come hand in hand with remorse and regret. Leave the next generation something to live on. Leave us something that will prevent the mistakes you may have made in the past. Leave us some hope.

Don't leave us in ruin.
