SLMM sure of LTTE intrusions by Ranga Jayasuriya The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission chief during his meeting with the LTTE political chief Thamilselvan this week has told Thamilselvan that the Army had produced 'credible evidence' of the Tigers advancing towards forward defence line in Nagarkovil. SLMM spokesman Oskar Solnes told the Sunday Observer that the head of the Mission, Trond Furuhovde demanded a LTTE pull back from the Nagarkovil FDL, claiming that the LTTE encroachment of the No-Man's land was a violation of the ceasefire. "The LTTE's response was however limited. Thamilselvan said he wanted to go back and discuss this with his local commanders," Solnes said. Referring to the routine meetings between the security forces and the LTTE in the East, Solnes said the head of the Mission requested the LTTE military wing leaders to be present at future meetings. "So far meetings are only between the Security Forces and LTTE political leaders. The Head of the Mission wanted the military wing leaders also to attend the meetings". Furuhovde also requested the Tigers to commemorate their Hero's day peacefully. "LTTE's response to these requests were positive, but we can see in the coming weeks what they will really do," Solnes said. |
