Coaching camp at Dumbar grounds Hatton by S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen, Kandy Sports Corr. The Central Province Cricket Association in conjunction with the Kandy District Cricket Association will conduct a cricket coaching clinic for school and club cricketers at Dumbar Grounds, Hatton on Monday November 29th starting at 9 a.m. This was disclosed by the General Secretary of the Central Province Cricket Association Janaka Pathirana at a briefing. Janaka Pathirana said that his coaching team will be led by the Central Province Cricket coach of Sri Lanka Cricket Sunil Fernando who has produced a number of top class cricketers including the world's best off-spinner and one time world record holder for the most number of Test wickets - Muralitharan. Others in the coaching team are; District coaches Chaminda Kodikara, Migara Ekanayake, Bernard Perera, and the Nuwara Eliya District coach S. Karthik. This high-powered coaching team will be accompanied by the President of the Central Province CA Tilina Tennekoon, Secretary Janaka Pathirana and Cricket Co-ordinator Al Haj Mohammed Zarook. Janaka Pathirana said that the objective behind this coaching clinic is to encourage cricket playing children from the plantations and spot talent. At the conclusion of the coaching clinic, a pool will be selected and their progress further monitored by the Nuwara Eliya District. There may be talented cricketers who may be lacking in opportunities and waiting to be searched and tapped. This move by the Central Province CA is laudable and their searching need to be focused on cricketers hidden from the spotlight. |
