Protect your pets from firecrackers

Soon it will be Christmas and on its heels will come the New Year. Once again it will be the time for some excitement with fireworks and firecrackers. But in your excitement, you could easily forget your loveable pet who may not enjoy the experience of firecrackers at all.

You might have seen how your pet dog, cat or even birds screech, whimper, cry and howl and act weird when they hear firecrackers. These animals especially dogs who have very sensitive ears find it difficult to bear loud sounds such as firecrackers. Therefore, it is your duty as a responsible pet owner and a true friend to make sure your pet is comfortable and secure while you enjoy the festive season, especially at the dawn of the New Year, when the sound of crackers fills the air the most.

If you or your neighbours light firecrackers, make sure to keep your pet in a safe place. Your pet will feel more comfortable if one of your family members could be around.

Once your pets get scared, they tend to run away and this will be more dangerous because there are strangers lighting crackers on the streets and in the surrounding areas. And, there may be vehicles too on the roads. So it is much safer to chain or cage your pets or keep them locked in a room if there are no boundary walls in your garden. Make sure at regular intervals that your pet is safe.

As much as you are concerned about your pet, it is your responsibility to think about other pets as well. Don't light fireworks where animals are around and don't throw firecrackers at stray dogs, cats and cattle. Remember it is not only firecrackers that make your pet uncomfortable, but also parties with large crowds coming into the house where loud music is played.

It is best to keep your pet indoors in a room or a cage if it is not comfortable in such a situation because otherwise when the gate is kept open, it may stray outside and get lost. And also make sure your pet is not stuffed with leftover food which may be unsuitable for them following such parties. Take good care of your pets during the season, because after all they are your dear friends.
