Shah Rukh Khan music incident embarrassing to Sri Lanka - Dr. Sarath Amunugama

by Rohan Mathes

The dastardly grenade attack on the musical fiesta of Shah Rukh Khan was a great tragedy, caused by sheer lunacy to place Sri Lanka in a very embarrassing position in their bilateral relationship with India. It would only benefit Prabhakaran's endeavors to regain favourable public opinion lost after the assassination of Rajiv Ghandhi, Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama observed.

Dr. Sarath Amunugama in an exclusive interview to the Sunday Observer said, "both History and Geography suggest that we ought to have a very cordial relationship with India to solve our major problems.

This criminal act could only be carried out by a moronic person who is ignorant of contemporary society and geo politics. The only beneficiary of this would be Prabhakaran who has been trying very hard to win back the public opinion of India, after the setback it suffered following Gandhi's assassination".

Amunugama explained that the policies of the last government had created as Karl Marx said, a 'lumpen' society which comprised village youth who moved into the slums of urban areas. They were without education and human values. They would just go to the highest bidder, the politicians who pay them or to those who appeal to their basic instincts.

The disastrous war has created over 100,000 trained killers. Some of them, after turning their guns to the North are now turning them towards the South.

However Dr. Amunugama ruled out a severe economic impact due to this attack on the premise that every country has a lunatic fringe of this nature and therefore, hopefully it would not be taken seriously as to be coined as typical Sri Lankan.
