Eco-friendly wood by MEVL by Hiran H.Senewiratne Mercantile Fortunes (Pvt) Ltd (MFVL), a subsidiary of Mercantile Investments Ltd is in the process of popularising its eco-friendly wood floor business in a big way. "The company initially imported wood to refurbish one of its hotels, Royal Palms Beach Hotel in Kalutara.It was highly appreciated by guests. That prompted us to enter the wooden floor business," MFVL Director Gerard Ondaatjie said. He said that the company enjoys more than 80 per cent of the market share in the wooden flooring business and added that the company is targeting five star hotels,high-rise luxury apartments and luxury houses in the country. Ondaatjie said that raw materials like wood is mainly imported from Malaysia,Indonesia and Burma as hardwood,parquet and boarded foam are exclusively designed for floors and touch up with coatings to manufacture finish products. The company has undertaken projects to refurbish leading hotels including Mt- Lavinia, Trans-Asia, Saman Villa. Most of the hotels are now going for wooden floors since it gives a beautiful look and natural feeling to the property, he added. Ondaatjie said that since the company is using imported raw materials mainly wood it is not harmful to the environment. |
