Three trainee pros to attend coaching course by Lal Gunasekera Three trainee golf professionals are to attend a coaching classification course at Delhi, India from January 28 to 31 under the Royal and Ancient (R&A) supported Professional Golfers Associations (PGAs) of Europe's World Golf Development Scheme. The Secretary of the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU), Priya Fernando, told the (Sunday Observer) that they (the SLGU have nominated four professionals (K.A. Nandasena Perera, M. Sigamoney, Ganeshkumar and Tissa Chandradasa), but only three may be accepted for this four-day course which is in its sixth year supervised by Donate Di Ponziane, the PGA's European Director and leading Italian coach and consultant. This 'golf missionary' work, basically to help the Indian Golf Union (IGU) to organise a coherent coaching network for its amateur players, the formation of an elite squad and thereby some firm footing for the future, the sport has blossomed in India to a previously unimagined extent. Di Ponziane's initiative led to a teaching system for trainee professionals, the introduction of a national academy and the start of an education program - one that has led to the Delhi project, when these trainee professionals will be taught, tested and classified on their merit and capability. "This process started last year and attracted trainee professionals from all parts of India and from Sri Lanka too, where the R&A/PGA's Europe World Golf Development Program is also producing impressive progress."said Fernando. |
