Dejan de Zoysa signs up for Minardi Team Asia by Srian Obeysekere When 19-year-old Dejan de Zoysa, races for the Minardi Team Asia in the 2005 Formula BMW Asia Series shortly, it will be a dream come true for the youngster. But as Dejan says the biggest dream will be to become a professional by achieving Formula-I status. But for that he is mindful that there will be no short cuts. "It is a long and arduous route that could take years. It needs a lot of money and experience in that quest," said an excited but adventurous Dejan at the prospect. Certainly, Dejan has both these and it will be interesting to see how the son of an illustrious father - Richard, would flaunt his skills to reaching sky's limit. Interestingly it is a chalk and cheese story of father and son. While his dad Richard was a champion rallying driver, Dejan opted for racing. And as Dejan says "I was not influenced by my father's career although he encourage me into the field." An international class go-kart champion and Formula Ford 1600 winner locally, Dejan has been signed up by the Minardi Team Asia which is linked to Formula - I through its Minardi F1 Team and leaves today (Sunday 20) to represent Minardi in 14 races at 7 venues including three Formula - I circuits in China, Bahrain and Malaysia. The Formula BMW Series envisages two championships - one for rockies and the main series run concurrently. |
