Detecting counterfeit forex In the wake of counterfeit foreign exchange circulating in Sri Lanka, reaching alarming proportions, the Association of Money Changers decided to embark on a training program for all money changers and their employees. The Colombo office of Thomas Cook with the consent of the Central Bank, obtained the expertise of Karthik Krishnan of Thomas Cook India to conduct a training program recently, for their staff and the Association of Money Changers. Karthik, a specialist on counterfeits outlined the basics of currency identification, highlighting general features of currencies such as the Euro, US Dollar and Sterling. He explained how and where counterfeits differed from legal tender, using 'Power-Point' presentations. |
