SLFP Women meet on March 8

by Ananda Kannangara

The women's organisation of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will hold a national conference at the Viharamaha Devi Park's open air theatre on Tuesday, March 8 at 10.00 a.m. under the patronage of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.

"Women in our times for the SLFP" is the theme of the confab which will be held to coincide with the International Women's Day.

Samurdhi and Poverty Alleviation Minister Pavitra Wanniarachchi at a press briefing in Colombo yesterday said that around 7,000 women are expected at the conference and several Parliamentarians including the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse will address the gathering.

"We have also planned to utilise the proceeds, received from the special women's lottery being sold, for the welfare of tsunami victims," she said.
