'Battle of the Babes' ends in dull draw by S. M. Jiffry Abdeen, Kandy Sports Corr The 47th 'Battle of the Babes' between St. Sylvester's College and Vidyartha College ended in a dull draw with the weather gods mercifully putting an end to the painful proceeding at the Asgiriya Stadium yesterday. In other words, it was merciful killing. On the first day, St. Sylvester's struggled for 57 overs to reach 140 mainly due to a fine knock of 50 not out by Mohammed Feshal with 9 fours. But the second proved to be even more painful as the batsmen struggled on a wicket in which the ball hardly rose. Vidyartha batted for 90.4 overs to score 102 runs at a rate of barely over a run per over. They blamed the wicket for their poor batting performance. Altogether twenty wickets fell in the match with twenty of them being taken by the spinners and the pacemen having no chance whatsoever Vidyartha in their second innings, opened with their spinners. |
