Former Wimbledon champ Margret Court to coach here by Lal Gunesekera The legendary Margret Court of Australia,m who won a record 65 Grand Slam titles in her career, will be visiting Sri Lanka at the invitation of the President of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA), Suresh Subramaniam. Subramaniam told the 'Sunday Observer that Mrs. Court (nee Smith) will arrive in the island on March 29 with her husband Barry, and will conduct three coaching sessions (both in the morning and afternoon) on March 31 and April 1. She has also expressed her desire to visit orphanages and tsunami affected areas. It was during Surbamaniam's visit for the Australian Open in Melbourne last month (February) that he extended the invitation to Margret Court and her husband, who were in the invitees enclosure and same hotel too. Margret Court (63) during her career from 1959 to 1975 won 65 major singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles, including 11 Australian Opens, 5 US Opens, 5 French Opens and three Wimbledon singles titles (1963, 1965, 1970), two doubles (1964, 1969) and five mixed doubles (1963, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1975). She was the first Australian to win at Wimbledon and Grand Slam and also ranked No. 1 in the world. The main court of the Australian Open is named the Margret Court Arena.
