Maitipe's film wins international award Boradiya Pokuna (Scent of the Lotus Pond), directed by Satyajit Maitipe, a feature film yet to be screened in Sri Lanka, has won the special prize for the best fiction film at the Honolulu International Film Festival - 2005 held in Hawai, USA, recently. Hailed by the Western critiques as ":at once a modern-day Buddhist parable, a deliciously juicy melodrama and an astonishingly frank depiction of sexual obsession", the film had been recognised at several other International Film Festivals previously. It won the 'Tiger Award's Nomination' for the most promising new directors of - 2004 at the Rotterdam Festival - 2004. Produced with the assistance of the Film Development Fund of the National Film Corporation, the cast of the film includes Kaushalya Fernando, Dilani Abeywardena, Priyanka Samaraveera, Darmasiri Bandaranaike, Veena Jayakodi and new comers Duminda de Silva and Gayan Lakruwan. Photography is by Palitha Perera and music is by Pradeep Ratnayake. The film is edited by Raveendra Guruge. Boradiya Pokuna will be screened in the CLE circuit shortly. Malini 2005
Chandika Jayan Gunasekara will hold his second solo exhibition titled 'Malini 2005' at the Lionel Wendt from March 22 to 24. A second year design student at the faculty of Architecture, Moratuwa University, Chandika has won several district and national level awards for her arts. The exhibits include water colours, pastels and oil paintings.
