Now a livelihood program for tsunami affected by Rikaza Hassan and Chamitha Kuruppu The Government is in consultation with donors to plan out and implement a livelihood program for the tsunami affected beginning July. Task Force For Rebuilding the Nation (TAFREN) Chairman Mano Tittawella told the media last week, it has taken measures to ensure a smooth changeover once the Rs.5000 monthly allowance is suspended by end of June. According to TAFREN chief, the Government has not yet decided whether to further continue the support payments. " But we will ensure that the people will not face any difficulties," Tittawella said. President Chandrika Kumaratunga has recently instructed the Finance Ministry to continue the Rs.5000 compensation initially suspended after two months till June. The arrears allocated will be paid together with next month's payments. Meanwhile, Task Force For Relief (TAFOR) Chairman Tilak Ranaviraja denied allegations made by tsunami victims that they have not received the monthly allowance. " We have made payments to all the victims and have the records to prove it," he said. |
