Amadahara Vesak Kalapaya to illuminate Colombo by Ananda Kannangara The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) will conduct this year's Vesak festival on a grand scale by illuminating the city of Colombo during May 23 and 24 under the theme "Amadahara Vesak Kalapaya". A reputed electrical wiring accessories manufacturing company in Sri Lanka, Orange has donated a sum of Rs. 1 m. to ANCL to carry out the program. In addition, the Presidential Secretariat, Sri Lanka Telecom, Finance Ministry, Transport Ministry, the Colombo Three Wheelers Association and several other state and private sector institutions located in the city have also pledged their support. According to the organising committee, apart from the normal decorations and illuminations, scheduled to conduct in and around the Galle Face, D.R. Wijayawardana Mawatha, Slave Island and Pettah areas, the annual Vesak Lantern Competition and the Bakthi Gee program will also take place opposite the ANCL premises during this period. ANCL, Chairman Janadasa Peiris received the sponsorship package from Orange, Chief Executive Officer Ananda Rajapakse at a ceremony held at ANCL recently. |
