Clinton sends deputy to Development Forum by Rohan Mathes Former US President Bill Clinton who was to attend the Sri Lanka Development Forum 2005 in Kandy tomorrow, will be represented by his Special Emissary Erskin Bowles, Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama disclosed. Dr. Amunugama told the Sunday Observer that UN Secretary General Koffi Annan had wanted Bill Clinton to ensure that the tsunami pledges were converted to commitments and disbursements, on which they are already working on. However due to ill-health, Clinton is unable to attend and therefore sending Erskin Bowles instead. Bowles will also be participating as the Deputy Chairman of certain sessions.Amunugama added that his ministry has also arranged for certain Senior Ministers as Tourism and Investment Promotion Minister Anura Bandaranaike, Health and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and Media, Ports and Aviation Minister Mangala Samaraweera to chair specific sessions at the Development Forum. |
