ETV journalist killed in accident

A bowser driven in a reckless manner ran over ETV journalist Samithra de Silva fatally injuring him while he was riding a motor cycle near a petrol filling station at Welikade last Friday. The incident occurred around 11.20 a.m.

Bystanders who witnessed the accident rushed him to the National Hospital Colombo but was pronounced dead on admission. Samithra de Silva's motor cycle and the bowser had been going in the same direction to wards Borella.

The rider was thrown off when the fatal bowser struck the motor cycle. The bowser's rear wheel had then run over the rider when he fell off the bike. The rider had sustained injuries police said.

The driver of the private bowser M. A. Janaka Pushpakumara was taken into custody following the fatal accident. He was later produced before court and remanded till May 18. OIC Traffic Welikade, Inspector M. H. Anura SI Weerasinghe, P.S. 1744 Sirisena and P.C. 3963 Ratnayake are investigating the matter.
