Manacled youngster in Police custody

Nineteen-year-old Selvaraja Selvakumar, who escaped from LTTE custody surrendered to the Naval Troops patrolling in the Trincomalee harbour last Thursday.

According to the Navy media unit, the young man whose legs were shackled to a chain and, a resident of Trincomalee appears to have been tortured after he was abducted and imprisoned by LTTE. His refusal to join LTTE military was the reason for his abduction and imprisonment, a statement issued by the Navy media unit said.

Soon after he surrendered, a few gunmen had arrived at Sampur beach and fired 60 rounds and disappeared into the jungle. Later the Navy had handed over the LTTE prisoner to the Trincomalee harbour police.
