Second Lankan to serve on HCIMA UK Executive Council The recently concluded election to appoint an Executive Councillor to represent International Zone 2 of HCIMA, saw another Sri Lankan, Saman Rajapakse FHCIMA, Past Chairman of HCIMA Sri Lanka International Group, elected to serve on the Executive Board for three years from April 2005. Dr. Chandi Jayawardene FHCIMA, now domiciled in Canada, attached to Niagara College as a Professor in Hospitality Management, was the first Sri Lankan to serve on the Executive Council (Board) of the Hotel and Catering International Management Association of UK. He was then elected President of HCIMA for the year 2004/5. Chandi was the first Asian and second Non Britisher to hold this prestigious position. He was also the Founder Chairman of the HCIMA Sri Lanka Chapter. The Executive Council (Board) of the HCIMA meets up to six times a year at the Head office of the Association in Sutton, Surrey and is entrusted with the responsibility of administering, directing and managing the affairs of the Association. The Executive Councillors in addition to their involvement in the HCIMA Governance, are expected to be the conduits for communication with the Membership of the Region, the Executive Council and Head Office in Surrey, UK. |
