Japan provides Rs 100 m equipment for rehabilitation needs The Government of Japan provided machinery and equipment valued at Rs. 100 million to the National Equipment and Machinery Organisation (NEMO) to be used in the rehabilitation of tsunami-affected areas. In order to contribute effectively towards the Government's rehabilitation efforts, NEMO requested the Embassy of Japan for machinery, equipment and spare parts to recondition the existing machinery and put them to good use. Responding to the urgency in restoring the tsunami-affected areas and restoring the people's lives, the Government of Japan provided two Excavators, one bulldozer and machinery spare parts under the Non Project Grant Aid assistance for restoration of the tsunami-affected areas. The machinery and equipment will be distributed to tsunami-affected districts such as Jaffna, Ampara, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Hambantota, Matara and Galle. The handing over of the machinery and equipment by Hiroshi Karube, Charge de Affaires a.i., Embassy of Japan to Ferial Ashraff, Minister of Housing and Construction Industry took place at the workshop premises of NEMO, Kolonnawa recently. Irishad Badudeen, Minister of Rehabilitation - Vanni, Gitanjana Gunawardena, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Chandrasiri Gajadeera, Deputy Minister of Housing and Construction Industry, M. S. Jayasinghe, Secretary, Ministry of Relief Rehabilitation and reconciliation Mrs. M. Karunaratne, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Construction Industry and H. M. Anver, Chairman, NEMO were also present. |
