Muslim National Alliance formed Three Muslim political parties this week joined hands to form a united front named Muslim National Alliance to campaign for the rights of Muslims, a press release issued by the Muslim National Alliance stated. The constituent parties of the Muslim National Alliance are the Democratic National Alliance (DNA), Sri Lanka Muslim Katchi (SLMK) and the United Muslim People's Alliance (UMPA). DNA General Secretary Hafiz Nazeer Ahmed was quoted in the press release, expressing hope that the Ashraff Congress will be an "impetus to the new alliance and added strength to achieve the aspirations of the Muslims". Pointing out that the Congress had split into several factions since the death of former Minister and the party leader M.H.M. Ashraff, Ahmed called on all the Muslim parties to join hands to "fortify the Muslim's clout in the political arena". A Memorandum of Understanding between the Alliance and the Ashraff Congress was signed at the Muslim National Alliance headquarters in Colombo. Abdul Rasool of the Sri Lanka Muslim Katchi, Nizar Moulana of the United Muslim People's Alliance, M.I. Uthumlebbe, Y.L.M. Zawahir and Kalid M. Farook of the DNA and S. Subairdeen, the leader of the Ashraff Congress were present at the signing of the MoU. |
