Lankans perform adequately Three Sri Lankan junior amateurs fared pretty well at the Jakarta Asian Plus Junior Golf Championship staged in Indonesia from May 31 to June 3, at the Damai Indah Golf and Country Club. The best of the trio was Binupa Wijesinghe, who finished seventh in the overall standings of the under-17 category. Chamil Wickremasinghe was 16th in the under-17 category, while Sanjay Wettimuny was 21st in the same category. The Sri Lankan trio participated as "private entries", although they received the blessings of the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU). The organisers gave them accommodation, but the players had to find the finances for their air tickets. L.G. |
