Micro Cars go for tsunami houses by Elmo Leonard A model house of 580 square feet has been built, claimed to be structurally stronger, heat insulant and costs Rs 600,000. One such house could be built in 10 days and 50 houses a month, making it suitable for re-housing tsunami victims, the developers, Micro Cars Ltd said. Micro Cars was the first Sri Lankan company to design, develop and manufacture the tradenamed Micro Car. Micro Cars has gone into this venture with their principals, Leeben International Inc, USA, using a technology known as Thermal Impac Building system. This system is said to be one of the most suitable and appropriate world renowned rapid construction methods and represented in Mexico, UK, USA, China, Korea, Chile, Nicaragua, Africa, Italy and West Indies, Micro Car chairman, Lawrence Perera said. The model house is in the UDA premises, Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla. The technology could also be used to build larger houses or bungalows, two storeyed houses or multi-storeyed buildings, chairman of the Leeben company, based here, Raj Jannon said. |
