CRC beat Madras for third year by Leslie Fernando Colombo Rowing Club rowers, rowed with great endurance, strength and balance to win the overall title with 28 points to Madras Boat Club's 14 at the 68th edition of the Madras - Colombo Regatta on the Beira Waters yesterday. The Colombo Rowing Club carried away the Deepam Challenge Trophy for the third successive year. They won the title in 2003 and 2004 too. The holders, CRC won the Men's 'A' Pair, 'B' Pair, 'A' Scull and 'B' Four to collect 28 points. Madras Boat Club won the Men's 'B' Scull and the main event 'A' Four (the boat race). The Madras Boat Club crew composed of Tushar Bansal (B) N. Madhavan (2), S. Abhilash (3), R. Balliga (S), K. Kurian (C), rowed with team work of high quality and perfect co-ordination to win the final and most important event the 'A' Four clocking 3.31 secs. and beat the Colombo Rowing Club crew of Udesh Hettiarachchi (B), Devaka Seneviratne (2), Dejan de Zoysa (3), Kushal Abeyaratne (S), Sharen Kannangara (C) time - 3.35 secs. Colombo Rowing Club won the Veterans Four. In the Ladies events Madras Boat Club took Ladies Scull and Ladies Four, while the Colombo Rowing Club won the Ladies Pair. Mrs. Nirupama Sen, the High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka was the chief guest. |
