Rohith de Silva to race in Britain again Sri Lanka's Rohith de Silva has once again been invited to participate in the Fastest Mini in the World races at the Brand Hatch Circuit in Kent, England. The races will be on a newly rebuilt track with all the latest facilities, where the next British Formula I (F1) and other prestigious racing events will be staged. De Silva was scheduled to race yesterday (Saturday) and will be on the track today too (Sunday). De Silva races under Class D, which is Space frame and steel bodied chassis with or without 'A' series engines maximum 2225 cc. This race is organised by Racing Festivals Limited and conducted by the British Racing and Sports Car Club. He is sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, SriLankan Airlines, The Traveller, Petco Lanka Tile Collection, Lalani Sachithra Agencies and Shan Trading. Rohith de Silva first participated in the Fastest Mini in the World races in 2001 at the Mallory Park Race Circuit and won Group E category. The following year (2002), he got the third fastest timing at the Denington Park Race Circuit, but had to retire in the third-lap due to mechanical problems. Then in 2004, he was forced to retire in the eighth-lap when he was in third position again due to a mechanical problem. This was at Silverstone Circuit. L.G. |
