Government to counter MFA challenges The government plans to counter challenges faced by the apparel industry due to the termination of the Multi fibre agreement (MFA) this year by activating an aggressive marketing plan for the apparel trade. A bigger delegation is expected to take part in the Magic show in Las Vegas, one of the largest international trade fairs to be held next month. Around 3,000 manufacturers and marketers will participate in the Magic Show with 95,000 attendees and 65% of them being buyers. Among the buyers who visit the show are small, large and wholesale categories with 6,000 elite buyers from the US. According to the show organisers 93% of the visiting buyers order their requirements from the show. Advanced Technology and National Enterprise Development Minister Rohitha Bogollagama leading a parliamentary delegation to the United States met senior officials of the Magic Show organisers on Monday in Los Angeles after an inspection tour of the Las Vegas Convention centre, the venue of Magic Show. The Minister said that arrangements are being made to have a bigger presence at the show.. Minister Bogollagama plans to have a separate Sri Lankan pavilion at the Magic Show. This will be the first time that Sri Lanka is having its own pavilion at the show. The Minister said that with the termination of the Multi Fibre Agreement it is required to pursue a vigorous Marketing policy for the apparel sector. In the post tsunami scenario Sri Lanka can be promoted if we have the right approach, the Minister said. |
