Celltel goes for per second billing by Don Asoka Wijewardena Celltel has set a new standard for its billing of calls on its prepaid platform with the launch of "Per Second Billing Option". Per Second Billing is fast becoming popular among GSM operators, extending great cost control for its prepaid cell card users by charging them for the exact duration of their cards instead of on a per minute basis, said Celltel Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dumindra Ratnayaka at a media conference on "Per Second Package" at the Hotel Hilton on Wednesday. Ratnayaka said that Celltel customers had placed confidence in the Celltel company as it had been growing by leaps and bounds due to systematic expansion of the business since the introduction of new packages. He said that corrective measures were taken immediately to restore a large number of gaps found in the past and added that the company had formulated a constructive plan to expand its current base stations from 200 to 300 in the near future. Referring to the advantages offered by the Per Second Package, Ratnayaka said that the cellcard users would pay for the exact number of seconds of their call duration, allowing them to pay a nominal amount for short duration calls and by this they could make more calls on their prepaid cards, or save on call charges and added that Cellcard Per Second Billing Package would also allow subscribers to make an outgoing call for as little as Rs. 5.50 of 20 second call at peak time or Rs. 2.50 for a 10 second call or only Rs. 7.50 for a 30 second call which was a good saving over the peak call charge of Rs. 11 on most prepaid packages. Celltel Commercial Director Anilijit Singh said that the Per Second Billing was the latest innovation to hit the growing GSM mobile telephony market and it had set a new paradigm in call billing among the prepaid segment. Referring to the substantial benefits of the Per Second Package, Sing said that the new prepay system would provide the option of switching between PSB package and the standard two minutes incoming free (Rs. 1,000 card) packages by the customers themselves by dialling a simple short code (313), should they want to revert to their standard package. |
