Follow IRA Govt tells LTTE Sri Lanka has welcomed the Irish Republican Army leadership's statement that pledged to end the more than 30 year old armed struggle. The IRA said that it would wage only peaceful struggles. Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry said that it was encouraging that the IRA was ready to engage with the International Independent Commission on Decommissioning to complete the process to verifiably put its arms beyond use. The Foreign Ministry said this should serve as an example to other armed groups, including those in Sri Lanka and encourage them to renounce violence. Cabinet spokesman, Health and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva at a press briefing welcomed the IRA's decision and expressed hope that the LTTE would also follow suit. |
