Worse feared in Sanath's injury Sa'adi Thawfeeq reporting from Dambulla DAMBULLA, July 30 - Sanath Jayasuriya's injury could turn out to be more than what was anticipated and according to Dr. David Young, the Melbourne based surgeon he may have to undergo surgery. Dr Young who is in Sri Lanka at the moment in connection with tsunami relief work in Batticaloa happened to be at the match today when Jayasuriya got injured in the 12th over of the Indian innings as he fell heavily on his right shoulder trying to stop a shot from Yuvraj Singh while fielding at mid-on. He left the field in a great deal of pain helped by team physio C. J. Clarke. Although initial indications was that his injury was a mild dislocation of the arm which was put right by Dr.Young, the worst is feared. Dr Young said that there are concerns about the damage caused to his rotator cuff tendon and he will be sent for scans to ascertain the seriousness of the tendon tear. "We will need to do an MRI scan on Sunday to find out what damage has been done to the rotator cuff," Dr Young said after the initial treatment. "The worse case scenario is a 'full thickness tear' that would require surgery and stop him playing for a significant period of time," he added. |
