Thomians remain unbeaten by Ranjan Anandappa While maintaining their unbeaten record S.Thomas' beat St.Peter's by 24 points (two goals, two tries) to 17 (one goal and two tries) to retain the Archibald Pereira memorial trophy for the third year in succession in their school rugger match yesterday at Bambalapitiya. Marshalled by number 'eight' Namal Rajapakse the diligent set of Thomian forwards Isuru Gomes, Nadeesha Kariyawasam and Yoshitha Rajapakse completely outplayed their opposite numbers to play a dominant role. The Thomian pack drove into rucks and mauls and won possession, and their back division played well in attack and gave the Peterites little or no chance of capitalising. Thomians led at the breather 7-0 and scored three more tries after 'lemons' with Rajapakse scoring three of them and Sanjay Samarasinghe one. He also put over the conversions. The Peterites after an unimpressive display in the first half reduced their lead with some good moves by their wingers. Flanker Sajiva Jayawardena, centre Madusha Silva and winger Dilanka Perera crossed the Thomian line in rapid succession. Madusha Silva gave them the extra points. Dilroy Fernando refereed. |
