'Goodwill'- an effective management tool

The purpose of this triumph is to emphasise the importance of goodwill as an effective tool in management process in any organisation. Although, there are many definitions introducing management term, the simple term is it is a process of any organisation achieving its objectives for the effective productivity. The manager makes a vital role in the productivity process in the organisation.

Management

Management has been defined by different people different ways according to their own respective conceptions. Some view management as the process of planning, organising, performing, directing and controlling.

Yet others have considered it as the achievement of the objectives of goals of an organisation by the intelligent and optimal utilisation of available resources.

The manager's basic functions are planning, organising, staffing, leading and controlling in the management process.

Human resources

According to the scientific management theories, management is a set of activities including planning, and decision-making, organizing, leading, and controlling directed at an organisation's human physical, and information resources with the aim of achieving organisational goals in an efficient and effective manner. The manager's attitude, skills, ability and knowledge affected to the survival of the firm.

In a manufacturing or service organisation resources can be divided into two categories such as physical and human resources. The capital, material, technology, land, machines and buildings are physical resources. The people in the organisation are included in the human resources sector.

All the employees including top to bottom in a organisation are considered as human resources such as managers, supervisors, subordinates. Any manufacturing or service organisation cannot survive without human resources. The human resources. The human resource is the most important asset in the organisation.

The role of managers is getting work from subordinates for the production process. The management of human resources is very difficult task. The managers have to work with them very efficiently and strategically. The human beings have various types of attitude, norms and knowledge and skills.

Motivation

In the past the managers thought they were given authority to command subordinates. Peter Drucker says that managers have to learn to manage in a situation where they do not have command when you are neither controlled or controlling.

The motivation is an important factor in the human resources management. The motivation is required to encourage the employees in the firm to increase the productivity. The management experts like Maslow, Hientsberg, Mcgregor proclaimed various motivation theories.

Those thories are applied in some organisations in western countries. The motivation is an integral part of human resource management. The motivation helps to increase the morale of workers and cause to increase the productivity.

Strategy

The managers must appraise and evaluate the work of subordinates and must consider their abilities and skills praiseworthy. The workers are interested to obtain intensives for their works.

The managers have to use various strategies to motivate and perform their duties the subordinates to increase the productions in organisations. There are many theories about motivation made by various management experts. The manager's attitude on subordinates is very important factor.

Some managers speak to subordinate angrily abusing and bad words. Then, the subordinates are compelled to work without satisfaction and work slowly and it affected to the productivity. Some managers have good relationship with subordinates and speak kindly. There is a good faith between manager and subordinate. The subordinates satisfy and work with happily. Then productivity may be increased and there is not any conflict.

Goodwill

The goodwill is the good and effective relationship between manager and subordinates. This is human factor and important than physical factors. The goodwill term means good mind, in Sinhala Honda Hitha.

The some managers are very kind hearted and they deals with subordinates in good health. It helps to increase the motivation of the subordinates and maintain the organisational peace in the firm.

Goodwill is an effective management strategy, which is followed by efficient managers to maintain the interrelationship with subordinates. Some managers will not make the talk to subordinates Mehe Waren Araka Karapan, Meka karapan but the use of such words in a friendly manner will not make the subordinates angry with their bosses.

Goodwill is a simple concept to maintain good relationship between managers and subordinates, better than management theories. It is a bridge which connects a management and employees. The managers must not be bias for individuals in administration but treat everybody equally.

They must be impartial. Some kind-hearted managers are popular among subordinates in an organisation because of their goodwill. Some managers get information from lower rank subordinates in the organization.

This is not good habit then those individuals are compelled to give wrong information then managers are faced difficult situations. When subordinates are made mistakes, the managers must not abuse them and advise them not to make errors and correct them.

Then subordinates may be happy and make their errors. "Error is humane, forgive is divine" this must be applied by the managers. The managers must listen to the everybody of the organization.

Every employee has a grievance.

When listen to the employees' grievances he will be happy unless grievance has not been solved and conflicts are not arisen. If a manager once a week makes a chat with subordinates with friendly mood it may be fruitful for the maintenance of organizational peace. The people of the organization may be love to their firm if there is a good faith between management and subordinates.

The manager's attitude upon subordinates is affected to the survival and productivity of the organization. The skilled managers know how to deal with their employees and the manner to use them for the productivity process.
