A thin wallet While rest of his Cabinet colleagues in the Presidential delegation to the United Nations had been well looked after by the authorities responsible, Constitutional Affairs Minister D.E.W. Gunasekera found himself in New York with only 150 US dollars in his pocket and he had to send an SOS to his Ministry seeking a living allowance. Perhaps he would have expected Uncle Sam to look after him remembering old days when the Kremlin comrades looked after him when he landed in Moscow with only 3 Sterling pounds and an exit permit in his pocket. I am sure Uncle Sam would have responded magnanimously but he was bound elsewhere- to the UN. |
