JVP for rapid economic development

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) stands for the rapid development of all sections in the economy through the combination of an efficient State sector and an efficient private sector, said a media release issued by the JVP on Friday.

The JVP believes in attracting and encouraging both domestic and foreign investments into both State and private sector as has been done admirably in Malaysia and China, the release said.

It further said:

"The JVP believes that the fruits of development through both the State and private sectors should reach the widest possible segments of Sri Lankan society irrespective of ethnicity, religion etc.

"The JVP's record in its one year and two months in office in handling three ministries dealing with economic activities has amply shown its stand, vigour and honesty. Through our thousand tanks project we reached the highest paddy production ever. We were aiming for a similar result in the fisheries sector when unfortunately the tsunami struck.

"In the small industrial sector, which is predominantly privately owned, entrepreneurs saw our dedication. They also saw that we never took bribes for giving contracts! Let us repeat; the JVP stands for a very rapid development using all available science and technology to reach the highest economic standards.

"Finally, the JVP believes that the spirit of entrepreneurship should be encouraged and cultivated in both sectors without destroying them, particularly, the public sector, in the name of privatisation."
