NMC changes name

The High Command of the National Muslim Congress which met under the chairmanship of Minister A. L. M. Athaulla has resolved to change the name of the party to "National Congress" says a press release of the National Muslim Congress.

Before arriving at this decision, the High Command had carefully considered all suggestions and recommendations forwarded by the branches, grass root level members, supporters and well-wishers of National Muslim Congress, a party which was formed on the eve of the General Election-2004 and which is also a constituent partner of the ruling UPFA.

Following a pluralistic political approach and the necessity of ensuring peace and harmony among various communities in the country enabling them to enjoy their rights and privileges in their own regions had been the primary motivating force behind this unanimous decision of the High Command for renaming the party as "National Congress".
