Neil Marine boats for Bandos Island Resort by Elmo Leonard Neil Fernando and Company Ltd, reputed to have the largest boatyard in South East Asia was last week conducting sea trials for a 23-metre luxury passenger ferry for Bandos Island Resort in the Maldives. Fitted with twin Daewoo 600 horse power engines and a speed of 20 knots, the vessel which is fully-air-conditioned has a seating capacity of 82 passengers plus crew. The all-carpeted vessel, bearing markings of 'Orchid 40' will change hands for around $350,000, chairman Neil Fernando said. The other facets the vessel carries includes VHF, Radar, generator of 30 KVA, life saving equipment, fresh water tanks, pressurised fresh water system and toilet facilities, engineering director, Rohan Botejue said. At the boatyard in Negombo construction for a range of pleasure boats and sailing vessels of 6.5 metre, 9 metre, 11 metre and 15 metre were ongoing. The orders were placed by operators in UK and other EU nations, Fernando said. Carrying the trade named Neil Marine, the company 35 years in existence is best known for producing fishing craft, designed by British naval architect, David Freeman. Neil Marine boats are built to Lloyds and Det Norske Veritas classification and CE approval and are known to operate the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, UK, USA, France, Maldives, Seychelles, East Africa and South East Asian countries, Botejue said. Neil Marine are also the sale distributors for Shell lubricants in Sri Lanka. |
