Ranil copies Mahinda's slogans - Mangala UPFA's electoral campaign media spokesman Minister Mangala Samaraweera yesterday charged that UNP Presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe had copied Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse's election campaign material thereby snatching the latter's intellectual property. This is not the first time Wickremesinghe copied such material. He has included one of the popular slogans of the Prime Minister which he used as Labour and Vocational Training Minister in the PA government. The UNP has been using this slogan - Hekiyawata Rekiyawak - in their campaign, Minister Samaraweera said. The immoral and unprincipled acts of this nature done by the UNP candidate bears testimony to Wickremesinghe's political and intellectual bankruptcy, he said. He alleged that the UNP has published election advertisements in certain weekend newspapers which are very similar to that of the newspaper advertisements published by the Premier's campaign office last week. 'Wickremesinghe has copied Premier Rajapakse's advertisement, its theme and letter fonts, Aluth Srilankavak, its logo, a lotus flower and its colour combination of blue and red stripes. This is an act of intellectual property violation", Minister Samaraweera charged. He said that it is ridiculous for a party like the UNP to field such a person sans a rational mind as their presidential candidate. "We are going to expose more of this intellectual property violation in the future", Minister Samaraweera said. |
