No policemen was injured in the attack, DIG Eastern Province Rohan Abeywardena told the Sunday Observer.

He said the mobile party had gone there on receipt of a call from some policemen from Eravur who had gone to Thalavankeni for an investigation that they fear an imminent danger to their lives from a crowd of people in the village. Even the police vehicle was not damaged in the incident.

Meanwhile the DIG has called for a report from SSP Batticaloa regarding the incident. (JJ)
