Rebels kill two soldiers in quake-hit Kashmir SRINAGAR, India, Oct 15 (AFP) - Two Indian soldiers were killed Saturday and six others injured when Muslim rebels attacked an army camp in quake-hit Indian-ruled Kashmir, a police spokesman said. He said the attack was launched on a group of soldiers near Indian army's territorial headquarters in southern Kathua district early Saturday. "Two soldiers were killed while six have been shifted to hospital," the spokesman said, adding that Indian troops immediately sealed off the area where a firefight continued. "The fighting is going on in the area and more reinforcements have been sent in," he said. The gunbattle came a week after a huge earthquake struck Kashmir leaving some 25,000 dead over the de facto border with Pakistan and more than 1,300 in the Indian sector. The region's main militant alliance has called for a temporary truce in the insurgency in quake-hit northern areas of Kashmir, but sproadic violence has continued. |
