Credit Suisse Bank to build village in Galle Twenty top executives of the Credit Suisse Bank, Zurich from the different branch headquarters in USA, London, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore and Switzerland visited the Southern Province and met the Governor, Kingsley T. Wickramaratne to discuss the building of houses for tsunami affected families. They have already funded the building of 30 houses in Dadella, Galle. The visit to the Southern Province was co-ordinated by Arjuna Mahendra, Chief Economist and strategist for Asia Pacific Branch of the Credit Suisse Bank, based in Singapore. At the meeting at the Governor's Office in Galle, Ashley De Vos, Director General of the Project 'Greater Galle New Township' made a Power Point presentation of the Master Plan, a concept of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. The Leader of the Group Ms Marie Burke who heads the Credit Suisse in London said, 'The Credit Suisse Foundation has allocated 15 million US dollars for Thailand, India and Sri Lanka for the tsunami affected families and that 75 percent of the budget is for Sri Lanka. They undertook to build a village within the 'Greater Galle Master Plan' with 30 houses, pre school, school, community development centre, swimming pool and playground and on the request of Governor Wickramaratne they agreed to extend credit facilities with easy access to hotels in the Southern Province with a grace period of two years through the People's bank. |
