PM assures better living standards for estate workers by M.P. Muttiah Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, at a meeting with the Agricultural and Plantation Worker's Congress delegation at the Temple Trees yesterday assured that he would make effort to solve the problem of the plantation community. He said he knew well the plight of the upcountry people. The Prime Minister said the plantation workers had been the backbone of the country's economy for the past 150 years. He would give priority to solve the unemployment problem of the plantation youth. Prime Minister Mahinda said efforts would be made to replace the line-room system with modern houses for the estate workers. He said he had already instructed the authorities to repair roads in the plantation areas. APWC President R.M. Kirshnasamy thanked the Prime Minister and extended his support to the Prime Minister at the Presidential polls. He said he was satisfied with the talks and has total confidence in the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse instructed his officials to provide two computers to the Social Aid Foundation run by the Congress. APWC's Administrative Secretary T. Sandrasegaren, Political Secretary S. Ganeshan, Youth Wing leader T.Sundararajaseker and Social Aid Foundation Secretary K. Kandeepan also participated at the talks. |
