Lanka's tailors second to none The ability of Sri Lanka's sartorial artistes is on par with internationally recognised tailors. It is the responsibility of the government to provide an extensive training program on tailoring to tap their services to the optimum, said Advanced Technology and National Enterprise Development Minister Rohitha Bogollagama at the awarding of certificates to 10 Master tailors at the EDB auditorium on Wednesday. Minister Bogollagama said that the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Master Tailors Association (SLMTA) proposed to organise a training program for tailors with the assistance of Andrew Madan Ramroof of Maurice Sadwell Ltd, Saville Roo UK. The EDB with the assistance of Sri Lanka's High Commission in London had organised a six-day training program for ten selected trainees to be trained by Andrew Madan Ramroof and the ten selected trainees included eight master tailors from the industry and two trainees from the Clothing Industry Training Institute (CITI) University of Moratuwa. EDB Chairman Brian Agunawala said that at the request of the EDB Ramroof had agreed to include ten observers into the program and course training literature was also provided. He said that ten observers were selected from the provinces and thereafter they would be assigned to work as provincial co-ordinators for the association. DAW |
