Kingswood take major honours by Ranjan Anandappa Kingswood took major honours at the Singer Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Awards Ceremony 2005 held at the Nalanda College Malalasekera auditorium yesterday. Eranda Weerakoddy the Kingswood rugger captain took two of the three main awards presented for the first time for the Player of the Year and Best Kicker of the Year while team-mate Gayan Weeraratne won the award for the Best Try Scorer of the Year to make it an all Kingswood affair. Kingswood reigned supreme as undisputed schools rugger champions winning the league and the knock out competition for three years in succession. The chief guest, Hemaka Amarasuriya, Chairman, Singer Sri Lanka said that, this year's tournament has been one of best for many years and paid tribute to all who contributed to make it a success. He said that the players maintained a high level of sportmanship, discipline with plenty of talent displayed. Some continue to play the game and represented the country while some fall out due to various reasons. But the game of rugby will be always remembered he said. Winners. Division one group 'A' winner - Kingswood, Runner up - S.Thomas'. Group 'B' Champions - St. Anthony's Katugastota. Runner up - Thurstan College. Group 'C' Champion - Trinity College. Runner up - Vidyartha College. Group 'D' Champion - Richmond College. Runner up - St. Aloysius College. |
