SriLankan, Trico partnership to benefit clients by Don Asoka Wijewardena In Sri Lanka 45 per cent of the travel market is from the Middle East, said SriLankan Airlines Head of Cargo UL, Nalin Rodrigo at the signing of an agreement with Trico Maritime as an unaccompanied passenger baggage handling agent of Sri Lankan cargo. "When we started this partnership with Trico we knew that there would be a huge potential for growth," he said. Rodrigo said that SriLankan Airlines will present gift boxes to returning migrant workers from the Middle East. Migrant workers living in Kurunegala and Galle could obtain their gift boxes in those places without coming to Colombo at the regional warehouses. Referring to the SriLankan Airlines and Trico partnership, Rodrigo said that Trico had been a reputed freight and shipping firm and had become SriLankan Airlines unaccompanied passenger baggage handling agent with the signing of an agreement. "This partnership will be of immense benefit to our clients in the Middle East, UK, Australia, Tokyo and US," Rodrigo said. Trico Maritime Director Don Gazara said that the partnership would also facilitate the movement of large amounts of unaccompanied baggage that Sri Lankan workers in the Middle East sent home. Trico staff in the Gulf would be trained in SriLankan cargo's customer service, techniques and the use of Skychain and added that Trico would offer reduced handling and warehouse rates and the facility would be published through Trico's own radio station in the UAE and through Trico's own newspaper Madaperadiga which was being distributed to all Gulf-bound passengers on SriLankan Airlines. Referring to the streamlined services of Trico,Gazara said that Trico would be transferring cargo from the SriLankan cargo centre at the Bandaranaike International Airport, in a bounded truck to its warehouse in Kotahena and deliver the goods to customers after completing all documentation and customs clearance. SriLankan Airlines Revenue Optimisation Manager Shiran Perera said that SriLankan cargo would double its handling capacity at the BIA next year to cater to its constantly increasing operations as its cargo centre had already drawn praise for its efficiency, having successfully adopted the Japanese 5S system of management to streamline its operations. |
