Kingsley to head Advisory Council Ingrin - the Netherlands Governor of the Southern Province Kingsley T. Wickramaratne has been appointed chairman of the advisory council of Ingrin International Foundation of the Netherlands. The Ingrin Foundation for International Graphic Training Cooperation plays a significant role in the progress and advancement of the printing and graphics industry in developing countries including Sri Lanka. At present Ingrin operates in eighteen countries across Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia. The Institute of Printing and Graphics Sri Lanka, the brainchild of Wickramaratne, was set up in 1996 during his tenure as Minister of International Commerce and Food. The Colombo based institute has since trained thousands of students and the consequent output of technically qualified personnel has had a favourable impact on the local printing graphic industry. Wickramaratne was also instrumental in setting up the Ingrin Media Knowledge Centre in Galle. Three-hundred students of the Galle institute who were affected by the tsunami disaster were awarded scholarships by the Ingrin Foundation of the Netherlands. On the intervention of Wickramaratne, these students will be eligible to complete their final year of studies at the Rotterdam University. They will also have the opportunity to work in the EU region as the professional standards of the Colombo based Ingrin institute are on par with standards in the European Union. |
