'Japan solely responsible for impasse' KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (AFP) - China said Saturday that Japan's attitude was "solely" to blame for the current impasse between the historical rivals, effectively ruling out any possibility of a meeting between their leaders here. China has already cancelled a customary tri-lateral meeting with the leaders of Japan and South Korea on the sidelines of the two-day Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit starting Monday. On Friday it pulled out of a scheduled three-way meeting between the foreign ministers of the East Asian nations. The move came after Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi in October defied protests and again visited the Yasukuni shrine, which honors Japanese war dead including 14 convicted war criminals - an issue that has angered both Beijing and Seoul. Asked by reporters whether China and Japan are likely to try to resolve their difference in bilateral talks here, Li replied by reiterating China's stance on Koizumi's actions. |
