All-round
increase in CSE in 2005
The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) recorded the highest total turnover, highest record of total number of transactions, highest ASI, highest Milanka Price Index, highest recorded market capitalisation and the highest net inflow in 2005. The All Share Price Index (ASI) increased by 27.5% for the entire year. The total turnover for the year was Rs. 114.5 billion which is the highest recorded while the average daily turnover was Rs 481.5 million. The total number of shares traded was 5.1 billion while the total number of transactions that took place during the year was 1.1 million. These are the highest ever recorded. According to a spokesman for the CSE the ASI increased by 69% till mid November and the highest ever ASI of 2561.4 was recorded on November 16. On the same day the highest Milanka Price Index of 3374.0 was also recorded. The highest market capitalization was also recorded on the same day. Foreign purchases for the year stood at Rs 27.7 billion while foreign sales were Rs. 21.5. billion. The net inflow for the year was Rs 6.2 billion which is said to be the highest ever net inflow.
