QICS to
offer accredited ISO 22000 certification
A Sri Lankan company could become the first in the world to receive certification in the food and beverage sector for compliance with the stringent new ISO 22000:2005 food safety standard with UKAS accreditation. Quality International Certification Services (QICS) said it has completed the office audit which amounts to 99 per cent of the prerequisites for being designated by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) as an accredited certification body for this new standard which was issued in September 2005. UKAS has already completed an office audit and is now waiting to witness an audit by QICS auditors before granting accreditation against the ISO 22000:2005 international standard. "We expect to complete the witness audit for ISO 22000 certification by February 2006," QICS Chairman Dr. Srilal de Silva said. "This means that QICS in association with Certification International (UK) will likely be the first certifying body in the world to be in a position to offer client companies internationally accepted UKAS accredited certification for ISO 22000." He said the new food safety standard amalgamates the combined requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 15161:2001 which was the guide on the application of ISO 9001:2000 for the food and drink industry, with seven principles of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) to form the highest standard available today for food safety. |
