JVP, JHU campaign theme: Corrupt-free governance by Deepal Warnakulasuriya 'People's Liberation Front (JVP) would not come forward to contest Local Government elections and go before the people with a list of promises. It pledges a corruption free governance', observed JVP Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The JVP Parliamentarian said that they were confident of winning the elections. He said this time they sought power in local government bodies and they were confident. 'Our theme 'village for the JVP' has already attracted the voters and we have proved to the people corruption free governance was not a dream', Dissanayake asserted. The Tissamaharama Pradeshiya Sabha controlled by us was chosen the best local council in the country and this example would be carried forward to other among local councils, he added. He said the JVP would emerge victorious in many councils. Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) that submitted their nominations for 93 local governing bodies in 15 districts including Ampara and Vavuniya are of the view that almost all local governing body members are corrupt and JHU's effort is to change that scenario, said JHU Parliamentarian Dr. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera. The Parliamentarian said that they would not target power in any local government body, but will be fighting to have a society, which observes the five precepts. Main political parties and independent groups have submitted over 20,000 nominations for March 30 Local Government elections last Thursday and only 4,255 members will be elected to 330 local government councils. According to the Department of Elections, polls will be held for 19 Municipalities, 42 Urban Councils and 270 Pradeshiya Sabhas and postal voting will take place on March 21 and 22. |
