SLC promotes cricket in Central Province by Upananda Jayasundera, Kandy Sports Special Corr Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has taken steps to promote cricket in the outstations by 'catching them young'. Under 13 and under 15 cricket pools have been set up. The Kandy District Coach Sunil Fernando has conducted awareness programmes for the masters-in-charge of cricket in Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya Districts. The programme was held at Dharmaraja College hall in Kandy. The Director of Coaching of Sri Lanka Cricket too attended the programme. The following teachers attended to coaching classes: J. Dissanayake (Kadugannawa National School), K. Indrajith (Kegalu Vidyalaya), H. R. Narada and H. Kumara (Hettimulla Bandaranayake MMV).
