Win three events each

Three national swimmers (Heshan Unamboowe, Chetiya Wijeratne both of Trinity and Chathuri Abeykoon of Ladies) put up outstanding performances to win three events each in their respective age categories on the penultimate day of the Dialog GSM Age Group Swimming Championships conducted by the Ananda Aquatic Club at the Ananda pool yesterday.

Unamboowe in the boys under-16 won the 50 meters back stroke 32.36 secs, 100 metres back stroke 1.17.88 secs and 100 metres free style 1.01.23 secs.

Yet another Trinitian, Wijeratne, also excelled winning three events in the boys over-19 in the 50 metres back stroke 31.76 secs, 100 metres back stroke 1.15.46 sec and 50-metres free style 26.29 secs.

Ladies' swimmer Abeykoon in the girls under-19 won the 50 metres Butterfly 33.86 secs, 100 metres back stroke 1.22.46 secs and 50 metres free style 30.06 secs.

Meanwhile Shehan de Silva of Trinity in the boys under-12 had two wins in the 50 metres back stroke 38.85 secs and 100 metres back stroke 1.24.72 secs. Pahan Vidyalankara of Museaus College won the 50 metres butterfly stroke 48.66 secs and 50 metres free style 40.09 secs in the girls under-10. Thanuja Dayananda in the boys under 19 took both the 50 metres butterfly stroke 22.36 secs and 100 metres butterfly 1.10.82 secs.

The meet will be continued today from 8.30 a.m.
